I took my rifle out shooting the other day, and put about 100 rounds through it.  I got home and spent about an hour and a half cleaning it.  I attempted to run a copper bore brush down the barrell, but it would not fit.  I recently bought this .223/5.56mm cleaning kit off the internet.  Now I am pissed that the bore brush doesn't fit.  Any suggestion on what I could do??

Are you sure the bore brush is the correct caliber?

Have a link to where you bought the cleaning kit?

If worse comes to worse you could always head to WalMart and pick up a .22 rifle brush or try your local sporting goods store.

I had the same problem and took my rifle to my gunsmith and asked him. he put the friggin bore brush right down in there. It was tight but it went. I was just worried that it was too tight. I had bought 3 other ones, same thing. But he said they were all the right ones and not to worry. Did that a few times and now its not so much a problem. Maybe have someone check yours out though, just so there is no mistake. Hope this was a help

Thanks for the help.  I will be posting that web site where I bought the cleaning kit from.  Here is the website.

Well, it looks like the basic GI cleaning kit. So, if the bore brush is the correct 5.56mm caliber brush that comes standard issue with the kit, then it should fit.

ETA: Not meant as an insult, but your not trying to use the chamber brush as a bore brush are you?

Hey......I have to ask. You just never know.

hahaha.  No, I am not using the chamber brush as the bore brush.  I've shot numerous .22 caliber rifle's and cleaned just as many as I've shot.  While cleaning them, the bore brush slides down the barrell without any problems.  When I try to run the bore brush down my ar-15, it is tighter than heck; bending my cleaning rod.

I’ve experienced tight bore brushes when new, but never a brush that is so tight that my cleaning rod flexes. All I can suggest is to try buying a new brush.

Buy a bore guide , get a Dewey rod , scrap the jointed rod ( keep it for field use )

I hope you are cleaning from the breach not the muzzle .....................

Push the brush all the way out the muzzle then draw it back thru .....if you can reverse the brush half way down the bore its time for a new brush .

Hey KidGlock,

Just to be clear - are you saying that you push your cleaning rod (without having the brush attached) in through the breach and out the muzzle.

Then, once it pops out the muzzle, you attach the bore brush.  Then you pull it back out through the breach...?

He's saying that you push the rod with brush attached, and then you pull back.
