Is it ok to use brake cleaner on the bolt to clean it while its out? Or just stick to the gun solvent.\\

The reason I ask is because I used the brake cleaner and it cut alot of time off. It blasted everything right off, it dried clean and I oiled it. Seemed ok to me, just wanted to check before I do it again.

Brake cleaner is not the best thing to use for cleaning, but it certainly won’t hurt your bolt. I use it strictly for degreasing or flushing out parts. I use BreakFree CLP for general cleaning and light lubing,  BreakFree Foaming bore cleaner for the chamber and bore, and BreakFree LP for lubing.

Forgive me I'm a dip... I meant starting fluid not brake parts cleaner. The only thing I thought was that it dries it out pretty good so as long as I oiled it good I figured it would be ok.

Starting fluid?

I guess in an emergency maybe.

lolIt was the fastest cleaning I've ever done. It blasted it clean in about 5 squirts, every nook and cranny. Try it and see what you think

It will also destroy every bit of lubricant you have in every nook and cranny.

Make sure you get some light oil back in those crannys!

Good bit of advice.  I just want to add that the same can be said about any of the aerosol cleaners, brake cleaner, carb cleaner, Gun Scrub, Break Free Powder Blast, even the non-aresol ones like Hoppes Elite, or Slip will remove all oils
