what am i doing wrong with the chamber brush? i soaked the lugs, chamber, brush and used a section of an old 3 piece outers brass rod (i used the last section with the non fixed handle) to attach the chamber brush to, first of all the brass pices on the brush are twice the size of my brass brushes that i scrub the bore with, i cant get the chamber brush to turn so the SS parts turn scrubing the recess lugs, i highly doubt your supposed to be it in from the muzzle end, what am i doing wrong? the brush is clearly marked ar15/m16 chamber brush, and also how far do you push it down? fair enough so the steel pieces go past the locking lugs and into the chamber? i think only far enough so the steel pieces can turn and clean the locking lugs (which is why i purchased the brush to begin with)

As per our IM conversation, here are the two chamber brush configurations I’ve used.

Take note that with both  configurations the brush is not allowed to spin freely, the handles, cleaning rod and brush are fixed solid.

GI set up.

My current set up.

Close up of the x-acto handled brush.

ETA: You could also substitute the x-acto handle with a section of wood dowel of a suitable thickness. Cut the dowel to length, drill down through the center and epoxy a section of rod in place. The x-acto handle was left over from my RC hobby days and just happened to work perfect.

I use a 9" Dewey loop rod and a AR15 chamber brush.  Both are 8-32 thread.  The dewey rod is solid and allows a lot of torque to be applied.  New brushes tend to be tight till you've used them a couple of times.

  Only about $6.
