What could cause them.  The wife was rapid firing and there were no problems.  I took a turn and started rapid firing.  No problems.  Then, when I inserted a new mag, drew and released the charging handle it fired the first few rounds but there after I would have to pull and release the chaging handle to get a new round chambered.  Then on one round it jambed.  I had to remove the upper from the lower and fight with it to get the spent casing out.  My gues is a dirty gas tube but since I am fairly new to the inner workings of the black rifle I figured I should ask the knowledge base.

any ideas

If your AR suddenly became a single shot rifle, requiring you to pull the charging handle back after every shot, then you have a gas system problem. Check the carrier key for looseness and try spraying the gas tube with brake cleaner to clear it out and see if it’s blocked.
