There have been a few posts about fire lapping and cleaning.  I read something about not pushing the rod all the way through as not to make contact with the crown.

How can you do this with a brush as you are not supposed to change direction with a brush while inside the barrel?  Does this apply to handgun barrels as well?

It is total BS that you should not go all the way through and out touching the crown. I have cleaned going all the way in and out with a brush and a Dewey rod(like 20 passes each way). Using a good coated rod and brass accesories it is impossible to damage the crown. I have cleaned my rifels every week for 2 decades like this and they all group like new (1 MOA or better).
Have no fear and scrub away!

This is a myth that will not die!

unless your rifle can shoot 1 hole 5 shot groups at 100 yards I would not worry about it.

for 99.99% of the rifles out there exitting the bore will make no impact on accuracy.

muchas gracias Arfcommo's  The whole barrel break in thing walks such a fine line between truth and fiction anyway but I remembered hearing something about that (not exiting the bbl all the way) a long time ago.
