A while back I had the flash hider and off to install a LaRue handguard and gas block adn thought I'd give the barrel a good cleaning in the process.  Well the barrel extension was no problem (as expected) but the muzzle was a different story.  Lots of baked on carbon on the end that I didn't have the faintest idea how to remove without damaging the barrel.  How do you remove this carbon build up?

I try to not let carbon build up in this area, but it’s easy to do since it’s an area not often looked at.

With the FH installed I use a combination of wooden kabob skewers to breakaway the build up followed by q-tips and CLP or Hoppes #9.

With the FH removed the task is even simpler. In that case a wooden popsicle stick can be used to scrap away the build up. Keep in mind anything metallic used as a scraper could damage the barrel which would degrade accuracy.

If the build up is hard, a soaking in Hoppes #9 should soften it up.
