Just acquired a Colt Match Target competition AR-15 .223

Have not fired it. I read the manuals I could find which confused the hell out of me.

I put a few drops of BF CLP on the trigger moving parts and then sprayed it with the Remington Dry Lube stuff. I don't think this is the right thing to do, is it?

What should I do to make it good? I was thinking of spraying with Carb cleaner or brake cleaner and then using just the CLP. Probably the upper and lower, just to be sure.

Suggestions,

Thanks,

Roy

For starters, here is a basic outline of how and where you should lube:

I do not mix lubes. The mixing you did will not hurt anything, but you might want to spray out your lower receiver with some carb or brake cleaner and stick with one lube. I would use the tried and true CLP for now. As time goes on you may find a different lube that suites you better. There are alternatives out there that many experienced shooters here on the site swear by.

Before you hit the range I would run a bore brush with CLP and a few patches through the bore to ensure that it is clean. Follow up with a dry patch and lube the rifle IAW the charts above, the US Army -10 operators manual or the Colt owners manual.

Oh, and don't forget to let us know how the first range session went!

all rem dry lube is teflon. You wont hurt anything buy mixing, Just wasting your money buy spraying a dry lube on a wet oil. I would reoil with clp as the carrier in dry lubes will act as a degreaser.

Thanks Quib. Just what I was looking for.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

I got the carb cleaner and the CLP. All I need now is the time.

BTW. I'm a Benchrest shooter. I clean the bore after every 5 to 15 rounds. A little anal.

Well then, a couple 30 rd mags will last you a day at the range!
