Anyone use their intermediate viscosity lube, #3000?  It's a cross between the TW-25B grease and their light viscosity oil (which is more like Militec or SLIP2000 as I understand it).

What are the guidelines for using oil, grease and in between mixes like #3000?  Do certain wear points always warrant one type of lube over another or is it mainly an environemntal issue (temp, external sand/grit, etc.) which drives selction?

According to the TM, use CLP for everything down to about freezing or below. Then switch to arctic lube.

That's all. BSW

Paging Blankwaffe...Paging Blankwaffe...

I say this because this member uses Mil Comm products extensivly and has some good info/experiance with it.  He should be along sometime here...

I myself like to use FP10.  It's all you need for anything short of a belt fed.  No need for grease IMHO.

The MC-3000 is basically a LSA.Its good stuff.
It is between the TW25B and MC-2500.So it you want something thinner than TW25B but thicker than the MC-2500 oil this is it.
The MC-3000 is nothing like Militec or the Slip. The viscosity,so to speak is higher and therefore a thicker consistency than either.Again to compare you would have to look at LSA.
In fact what I was doing for awhile on my high use target pistols was mixing TW25B and the MC-2500 oil to get a bit more oil content to the TW25B.Reason why is that the two combined seemed to extend the lubes life while in heavy use.TW25B alone is somewhat dry looking, particularly after a few hundred rounds when applied according to the application instructions. Not to say that the TW25B and its PTFE is not still there doing its job,as it is,but once the TW25B is heated and ran for awhile its somewhat small portion of oil starts to go away.Adding a bit of oil seemed to boost the performance dramatically in the long haul.In my testing this mix also boosted the TW25B's corrosion protection effectiveness.
While talking with Mr.Furlong at Mil-comm I mentioned my mixing and told him what I had seen.He confirmed and said that the mini-gun guys had seen the same thing. The higher oil content does make a little bit of a difference in having the oil film barrier present rather than depending on the PTFE's barrier characteristics.
So I tried the MC-3000 for several months and like it very much.
But in the end I came to prefer to just use TW25B inside and out as described in the application instructions rather than my mixing or the MC-3000 as the primary lube.Reason is that when applied according to Mil-comms directions TW25B stays put and does not attract alot of crap that is seen in carry like belly button lint, potato chip crumbs and the like.I use the MC-2500 oil or the MC-3000 on all the confinded spaces like the pins, fire control etc..
The somewhat thick MC-3000 with its higher oil content,is a bit of a dirt magnet. The stuff also runs a bit when heated just like LSA.
But if you want a high vicosity oil the stuff is the ticket. Its for sure an excellent lube and protectant.Probably the closest thing you will find to LSA-T.
Mil-comm's application instructions for the M9 and M16 are on the Mil-comm web site.Download and print them. They are helpful in getting started.

As Ive stated in my other posts I use the Mil-comm exclusively on my pistols now.I did for a short time run Mil-comm on my AR's and such. But have found that I like a CLP better for the AR's and other rifles.Like Tempest,I prefer the FP-10 CLP.
The FP-10 is cheaper and easier to use overall.Slop some of the CLP on,wipe of the fouling and Im good to go.Im getting lazy and cheap I guess.

I've been using TW25B for about a month now and it is really growing on me.  It stays put, seems last for a high round count, and doesn't run.  It is all I use on my 1911's now.  I just shot my AR with it and all seems well.
