I recently bought a different brand of pipe cleaners when the store was out of Dill's brand. I did not bother to open the pack and look at them figuring they are all the same. Well when I used them they are different, and in a good way. The brand is Sir Walter Raleigh and they are the same length and diameter as Dill's. What I like is that they have red bristles throughout the length as well as the cotton. They are also about 3 times stronger than Dill's. They are not as absorbent but work really well for scrubbing and since they are strong I pinch them around a patch to lube and clean hard to get to areas. Try them out.

Oh yeah and also give FP-10 by MPC a try to. I always used Break Free CLP but recntly bought this stuff. It cleans really well and from my limited experience with it seems to lube alot better then CLP.

FYI, those are just called stiff pipe cleaners.  they are coarser and do indeed have a thicker/firmer wire core.
the coarse red bits are a good giveaway.

Those look like the same exact pipe cleaners I was talking about.

I buy pipe cleaners here too, very fast service and fair prices. Use for all my weapons.

gas tube cleaning pops every so often. i break open an AR, clamp it in my Sinclair cradle, and then drip a bit of Slip 2000 carbon cutter down the gas tue, then clean as usual. When cleaning is complete I either run one of those long ipie cleaners down the tube followed by carb cleaner, or just carb cleaner. The slime comes out the gas orifice into the bore itself. After an appropriate interval i send some carb cleaner down the bore, swab, then lightly lube. My theory is that cleaning the gas tube can't hurt, and my method permits the Slip 2000 to work while I am working on the rest of the rifle.

You should also put some of that oil up your exhaust pipe while you are changing your oil. Then when you are done you can mop it out. LOL. Just playing. Cleaning gas tubes is just such an unneccessary part of cleaning. It really does clean itself with 50, 000 psi. Plus that stuff you put down there is the reason you have to keep cleaning it since you have now introduced petroleum into the gas tube. That is where the sludge comes from. People please stop cleaning your gas tubes.

But let us not make this post about the gas tube cleaning.
