My ar15 is not blowing back far enough to eject a round. I've cleaned it, checked all gas tubes, gas block, bolt etc and still nothing works. Could it be the spring is too strong? I'm thinking about drilling out the gas hole on the barrel to allow more gas through this bushy upper. Any help will be apreciated. Thanks!

That's about the last thing you want to do.  I'm not saying never do it, but it's down the list a bit.  We need more details on exactly what it's doing and what you have.  Where does the fired brass end up?  Have you checked the gas key to ensure it has not come loose?

If you wade through the posts tacked HERE you will find a lot of good info that might get you squared away.

i would leave the gas port alone.

what buffer spring are you using?
what buffer are you using?
what ammo are you using?
what did you last install or do to your rifle?
what stock are you using?
have pics of your setup?
std upper straight from bushmaster?
what mags are you using?
what mag springs?

Reloads or factory ammo?

Has it always been doing this or just started?

Check the carrier key and make sure the screws are tight and staked.

Have you checked the gas rings and do they pass the carrier test?

Is the buffer spring in spec. as to length? Do NOT trim if it is in spec.

Start with the cheapest fix first. The absolute LAST thing you want to do is to enlarge the gas port.

+1

It's a lot of reading but most if not ALL questions asked here have been answered already in the FAQs.

And just so you know, there's quite a few possible causes for the problem you have so I would consider all the variables.  The FAQs/tacked threads are a good place to start learning about these variables.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to replace the gas block and tube and see if that works.
