NJ is pretty hard on softer finishes, I took the bluing off my M9 with it prior to rebluing. That was a waste of time as the bluing just rusted again so I parked it first chance I got.

That is not terribly surprising, as bluing is a form of rust. Just a different type of oxide. An FYI to all the potential Naval Jelly users out there.

Another good way of removing rust and bluing is with a solution of muriatic acid. You can read details about it on this page.
