If you use a bore guide on the chamber end how does it keep you from messing up the crown?  Can a rod used by hand really harm a crown anyway?

The bore guide only works if you can clean from the breech, such as is the case with an AR-15.

Cleaning from the muzzle is a last resort method, unless of course you don't mind running
the risk of ruining your (potential) accuracy by wearing the most critical part of the barrel:
the last few inches!

If you shoot your rifle alot, this means you will most likely clean your rifle frequently.

Most of the accuracy-robbing wear on barrels occurs when cleaning; believe it or not!

Using a bore guide also prevents cleaning fluid and debris from falling into your trigger-group.
