I am the proud owner of a new DPMS Panther .308, 24" barrel.  This is the first new, modern rifle I've ever bought.  I've got a few C&R rifles.  It's a rather elite gun, but I knew it was what I wanted when I first heard about it.

I'd like to ask for help on few things.  There are some real basic questions here.  I've only had it for a day, so it hasn't been fired yet.

While breaking in the barrel after each of the first 25 rounds (DPMS recomendation), how far should disassembly go for cleaning?  I can easily manage everything except for removal of the gas block, gas tube, and removal of the barrel from the receiver.  Will I have to do this?  I don't know how to remove the block properly.  I know it's an interference fit, but how should the gun be stabilized, what parts *should not* be used for leverage, etc.?

Thanks.

The only time you should have to remove the gas block is when you re-barrel or you add a float tube. Other than that LEAVE IT BE. Same goes for the barrel, until you re-barrel LEAVE IT BE. The only time the gas tube needs removing is when it wears out. If you will notice there is a little nib on the end where the carrier key rides up on it. If this wears too much you will have functioning problems, but until that happens LEAVE IT BE. Clean the barrel and have at it.
