Is this a first-time thing or what? I cannot get the takedown pin to move...??

Pretty much a first time thing... Take a small dowel or something non-marking and a small hammer or the handle of a screwdriver and tap the takedown pin... it won't take much. After tapping the pin open a few times you'll be able to open it by hand...
