Hello, my 1st post here, forgive if this topic has been covered before.  Does the gas tube of my AR15 need to be cleaned beyond the visible area?  I've seen in manuals that a dirty tube may cause malfuncions but I have found no methods for the cleaning.  It seems like quite a job for an actual instrument, I'm curious if GunScrubber spray is a good idea.  Any info on need and methods of tube cleaning would be great.  Thanks to all!

Short answer, No, you don't need to clean it (unless you have a rimfire adapter, then, maybe)

We do carry a gas tube cleaning brush.  Basically a long pipe cleaner.  I think they are about 9 buck for 50 of them for those that want to brush up their gas tube.  Personally I have never cleaned one, but some people do and we sell a lot of them.

you only really need is some standard pipe cleaners, that you can pick up at any store where they sell tobacco products, and just swab out the gas tube, as far as the pipe brush is long, and that's it.....don't use any cleaning fluid on it, just dry wipe it. forget about buying those long pipe cleaners, they cost way too much and it really isn't necessary to go that long down the tube.

First of all; Welcome aboard.  You don't need to clean the gas tube.  I hear where some guys do clean them but its not necessary.

But, if you suspect that a short-stroke or other issue may be caused by a partially-obstructed gas tube, you can always spray your CLP (using the straw) up the tube until you see some in the bore, then stand it up to drain back out of the tube.

This works best if done 24 hrs or less before shooting...you don't want to let it dry back out.

Run patch thru barrel to clear the bore, then reassemble and shoot. Bolt carrier should be just filled with crap loosened by the CLP and blasted out by gas pressure.

Have Fun!

I bought some of those once. I ended up cutting them up and using to clean in the nooks and crannies of all my firearms. But would I ever stick one down my gas tube - no. YMMV

Thanks to all for the info.  I have not had any malfunctions in my rifles, just curious after reading that the tube could be cleaned.  Thanks again!
