So I have a DPMS lo-pro upper and PSA premium BCG..It binds up when I try to charge it. It moves about 1/2" and stops. By process of elimination I found that with the cam pin removed I can fully pull back the charging handle and it functions as it should..How can I tell if its the cam pin or the upper that's the problem?

Try another BCG in your upper and or try your BCG in another upper. Then try swapping out just the cam pin.

Thanks that's the obvious solution that somehow I didn't think of. Guess my brain is fried tonight.I'll try that. But I may be on to something different now. Using the charging handle it Jams..But if I take a wooden dowel and push the BCG back by pushing on it through the ejection port, it goes back smooth..Now I'm thinking I'll swap out charging handles tomorrow and see if maybe the charging handle is putting the BCG in a bind causing it to jam on the cam pin.

SOLVED

Swapping out charging handle solved the problem..Upon further inspection, the bad charging handle was worn at the front and instead of grabbing the lip on the carrier in front of the cam pin, it was slipping over the lip and key and stopping at the cam pin. This wouldn't let the cam pin move, binding the BCG, and why it would charge with the cam pin removed.

Great! I had same problem 3 years ago form a first class AR manufacturer. A dial caliber revealed about 0.30" short on the drop down to the bcg.
