So I just recently build an ar. Aero Precision lower, spikes enhanced lower parts kit, yankee hill complete upper, fab defense collapsible stock, was using federal american 5.56 with several different hexmags and a pmag.

So on my very first shot, it double fired. I then went to pull the trigger again to find that nothing happens. I pull back the bolt to a live round being spit out. So I cock the gun again, pull the trigger, it shoots 1 round. I pull the trigger again, same issue nothing happens. So I decided to just deal with the issue assuming that the mag probably had to get broken in. I noticed on the last round the bolt was retracted and held by the bolt catch like it should be. I then could assume the issue I am having can't be gas related as the bolt worked as it should when the mag was empty?

So I then went a bought a nice steel pmag and some expensive fiocchi ammo. Return to the range, insert the mag, cock the gun, pull the trigger....boom it shoots like a 3 round burst. I try pulling the trigger again, same thing nothing happens, I pull back the bolt and a live round is spit out.

I'm at a total loss, I'm pretty new to the ar platform and this is my first build. Any ideas or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Your fcg is fkd up and disconnect is not functioning properly.

Make sure all the springs are in correctly (disconnect spring upside down is common) and get good at function checking before you go back out.

Yep, sounds like you left the disconnector or disconnector spring out.  Sometimes a backwards hammer spring or upside down disconnector spring can cause this issue as well.

Here is a picture showing the correct hammer spring orientation.

Here is a picture showing the disconnector and spring.  The wide portion of the spring needs to be pushed down into the trigger.

My vote is the disconnector spring either left out entirely or installed wrong.

Same.  Disco or fcg springs.  Double check time.

I'd like to see one of these steel Pmags you speak of.
