Ok guys, I won't name names (yet) but I bought a complete upper, an 18" 223 wylde with rifle length gas tube. First time buying from this company. It didn't come with a BCG or a CH, but I had those laying around BCG was from Stag Arms - I used it in all my builds, I've built 5 ARs so far - always works great, love the quality/price combo.

Anyway, when I got the upper I noticed the gas block was slightly canted, I saw someone who bought the same upper on YT that had cycling problems so he fixed his gas block alignment and it worked fine. I just fixed it before I shot it.

So I take it to the range and BAM, single shot, bolt not holding open, once out of 10 shots I'll get it to cycle the next round. I call the company, they offer to fix it and ship it back free of charge - great!

I send it back exactly how I got it. This is very important - I sent it WITHOUT a BCG or CH. About 2 weeks later which is fast! I get it back (that is today). I opened it up and they shipped me the upper back with a BCG and CH - wow awesome! They also ship it back with a letter telling me what the problem is.

The summarize the letter they said "We found out your BCG was causing cycling issues because of headspace, we used our BCG and everything works perfectly now". I have yet to shoot it but will this weekend.

So #1 how would they know my BCG had headspace issues if i didn't even send them it?

And #2 how on EARTH would headspace cause cycling issues?

This 100% IMO was a gas issue, likely hole not big enough on the barrel.

Thanks in advance.

They are retards IF that is the whole story.  Without your bolt, they have no idea what it headspaced like.

UNLESS - they found the barrel headspace was incorrect, and they replaced the barrel, or if short headspace, they were able to ream the chamber (stainless or uncoated steel only)

Regardless, headspace RARELY can cause any kind of cycling issue.  Long headspace won't cause any issues with cycling, and short headspace usually won't chamber or shows serious pressure signs on the brass if it is a problem.

If I were you - I'd have the headspace properly checked with THEIR bolt/carrier, AND with yours.... and see what's going on.

P.S.... short stroking on rifle length gas and 18" barrels is common.  Some manufacturers do not provide a large enough gas port for reliability.

Yea sounds like total bullshit. Has to be the gas port.

I bought it because this was a CHF Chrome Lined barrel .. so you can probably GUESS where I got it from. The BCG they gave me back has a roll pin that looks smashed in probably from the little pin that sticks out on the bolt face - forget what it's called.

Going to fire it off this weekend and see how it performs. If I have the same issues what do you recommend?

I would think my two options are #1 continue troubleshooting this.

#2 I'll just return it, get my $400 back then build an 18" upper myself using a proven barrel. It won't be chrome lined b/c they're near impossible to find, but I will have to try nitride sooner or later since that's all that seems to be around anymore.
