I have two uppers with different barrels, and they feel different. I haven't shot an AR15 other than the two that I have, so I don't have much to compare to.
I have one lower and one BCG, so the receiver, buffer, trigger, etc is the same between these. It's an Anderson lower with a PSA Magpul MOE LPK, and a PSA BCG. Ammo is consistent between the comparison, American Eagle 55gr 5.56. All shooting is from a bench with the rail sitting on sandbags. The 1st upper is a pre-assembled PSA 16" stainless 1:7 upper. It has a Troy Delta rail, red dot and a Magpul rear BUS. The fitment is not great between the lower and upper. It has some movement and rattles when you shake it. When shooting, you don't notice this at all. You pull the trigger, all the force comes straight back into your shoulder, and the flash is gone quickly. 2nd is a pre-assembled PSA 24" melonite 1:7 upper with a Magpul M-lok rail and put a 3-9 scope on it. The fitment between upper and lower is better than the 16". There is little movement, and the pins feel more solid when engaging. When shooting, the force generated by the gun doesn't feel like it's all going straight back into your shoulder. The gun wants to twist about the barrel axis a bit, and it feels like it wants to wobble side to side. The gun just doesn't feel stable and you have to grip it for dear life to keep it from moving off target too much. I haven't yet taken the rail off to check barrel nut tightness, but the barrel feels like a similar stiffness to the 16". Possible causes Increased velocity causes increased flash and recoil (I don't think that's it, because this is harder to handle than a Hakim rifle). Gas system not tuned well (not sure if it's an adjustable gas block, or if that could even be a culprit) Uneven force at the muzzle brake will have a greater moment on a 24" barrel Loose barrel nut Any suggestions? I'm trying to figure out is something is wrong, or if it's normal with this combination of parts. |

Quoted:
Both barrels have standard A2 flash hiders. I have not tried it without it. Is the flash hider properly timed? It sounds like the one might be turned off to one side a little. It doesn't take much to really give you some side torque. The dead spot, or where there are no grooves, should be facing straight down on the A2 flash hider. |
