i bought a used bolt carrier group to find the ejector and ejector spring are missing, so i bought the missing parts but i'm not able to get the ejector spring to fit all the way into the bolt. is there a trick? i did make sure to get the 308 ejector spring |

Start by chasing the ejector spring channel with a drill bit.
There could be crap at the bottom of the channel to start with that needs to be cleaned out. So on that note, start with a smaller drill bit just encase there is a piece of broken spring at the bottom of the channel, then use the larger drill bit to clean up the sides of the channel. Also, who knows and there may be a piece of solid broken debris as the bottom of the channel, so may have to try to air blow it out as well. As for the next part if still a no go, need to know which type of 308 bolt if the ejector channel needs to be drilled deeper (or to check the spring length/ if there is something wedge in the bottom of the channel since it's strange to get a used bolt that does not have the ejector in it, much less the extractor as well). Also Is this an stoner design (dpms) or armlite bolt and barrel instead. I bring this up, since you have to use a stoner bolt with a stoner chamber barrel, and an armilite bolt with an armilite chambered barrel (they are not interchangeable, since if they are not matched pair of bolt and barrel type, will not head space correctly). So what is really needed beside the bolt type, the depth of the ejector channel for the bolt, the length of the spring, and then the distance of the ejector front back of it, to the start of the U channel cut in the side of it. And again, if it came with a extractor, but no ejector, something was up and why it was not installed to begin with. Lets just hope that its something simple, with some crap in the bottom of the channel that you can get out. If not, then the channel may have to be drilled to the correct depth and width, and your not going to pull that off with a standard HSS drill bit (bolt is hardened as hard as a HSS drill bit, and will just dull the bit the instant you try to remove any bolt metal with it). |
