| An LMT barrel with standard sight base .I've removed the taper pins thinking that would be the hardest part. Not so..the sight base wont budge! Any suggestions? I used some standard gun oil hoping for it to do something, should I buy some penetrating oil? rubber mallet? Any suggestions or links would be appriciated! |

A little penetrating oil or Kroil will usually help. You can give it a few taps with a rubber mallet to see if it will rotate, and once you get it rotating it should move forward.

Its easy to go overboard so I hate to suggest hitting anything with a hammer after I saw that other FSB thread where the guy was trying to beat his taper pins out the wrong way. @OP If you can get a piece of wood flat against the barrel and flush against the FSB and tap that, it will exert pressure directly outwards without much tilt and that can get it started. Grease your barrel on the outside a bit too, to try and prevent any walking scratches in the barrel finish. |
