hey guys and gals,
i have an ar a buddy put together a while ago. my first build, so he was helping me out. he's done quite a few. got around to test firing it before going into work and had a major issue. here is what happened.
loaded up the mag, loaded the rifle, and fired the first shot off. when i went to release the trigger to then fire the next round, it didn't reset. barely moved forward. i thought maybe it just didn't cycle fully. pulled back the charging handle, which took some force, and a live round ejected. let go of the charging handle and chambered the next round. when i shot it, the same exact thing happened. i decided to look at the 2 rounds i had to manually eject, and the primers were lightly hit. remember, i was not able to pull the trigger when the were chambered. i did some dry fire with it, holding the trigger down after pulling it to run the action and there was still no reset. took off the upper and pulled the trigger and slowly lowered the hammer with my other hand. still holding the trigger down, i tried to push the hammer back into the cocked position, and it would'nt catch. has anybody had this problem before? if so, what was the cause? any help would be great.
thanks all!

Pics needed. Disconnector present?

Either a problem with the disco, such as the disco spring not installed or large coils side not installed downward, or a bur on the FCG parts that is not allowing the trigger to return home to allow the disco to release the hammer for the reset.

Try the rifle again, and this time, see if moving the selector from fire to safe, then back to fire again resets the trigger.

If moving the selector resets the trigger, then check for burs in the below areas,

If moving the selector does not reset the trigger, then double check all the spring orientation installs, including the disco spring under the tail of the disconnector that should be installed large coil side down into the slot of the trigger.

Removed fcg and found no disconnector spring. Grabbed one from a parts kit I had laying around. All is good.

Step one, grasp rifle butt stock with one hand, grasp forearm with other hand,

Find buddy and give him a rifle butt rubbing to the back of the head so hard, that it will be minutes before he realizes that the ground just rushed up and slammed him in the face.     Once he manages wipe the last of gravel and drool off his face where the ground reach up and slapped him, remind him of carrot or stick  philosophy learning methods: and will pretty much bank that he will never forget to install the disco spring in a FCG again.

It either that, or just shame it to all hell instead for such a novice mistake.
