Edit: Oh yeah, so, this is my first AR ever and I'm asking you guys because I don't know how close something like this can be expected to be.
So, as the title suggests, I'm having some troubles with how the top rail of my Midwest Industries 15' gen 2 free float quad rail is lining up with the rail on my top receiver. When I initially had it installed at a local gun shop, it seemed to be fine, until it came loose a few days ago, at which point I took it back and they worked on it, free of charge. They got it torqued back down so that it wouldn't turn anymore, but in the process it seems out of alignment... I'll have some pictures at the end of this post so you can see for yourself and help me out, if you wish. But, the point of this post is that I am a little worried about how the top rail is now lower than the rail on my receiver, which I do not believe was a problem when it was installed the first time. Is there some damage to the rail, barrel nut, upper receiver or some combination thereof? I am not able to mount my EOTech 512 properly(it will lean slightly to the left when put on the rail at its original position, which would put the front end over where the rail and receiver connect). Here are the pictures, although I don't know how well you will see the misalignment in them, so I will say that the hand guard rail is approximately 1mm lower than the receiver rail, and it is somewhere around 1/2mm left of the receiver rail. So, is there a problem that can be fixed by more work, or is it damaged in some way? http://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h449/xPonyExpressx/IMG_0255.jpghttp://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h449/xPonyExpressx/IMG_0258.jpghttp://i1110.photobucket.com/albums/h449/xPonyExpressx/IMG_0259.jpg |

Quoted:
Looks semi normal (tolerance staking of two parts produced by two different manufacturers), and to get away from such, better off with a monolithic upper receiver instead. Really? This is considered (semi)normal? I've heard people say that you should expect and demand perfection when it comes to hand guard-receiver rail alignment... I'd think it'd be a pretty big issue to not be able to mount anything in the area where the hand guard and receiver connect. Also, I've heard people say it will affect the ability of my iron sights to line up, possibly in a way that cannot be overcome by the built-in adjustments. |
