I've bought and tried several end plates for a single pt sling. out of three different ones I've yet to find one that allows for the Charging handle to move past it. Should I just scrap the idea? I've read where people have ground them down and repainted them to make them work. I did a thread search here and didn't have any results.

Name brand Hoop should already be milled on top for the flat to allow the charging handle to pass past, just like the standard back plate.

If you need to grind the top of the plate/hoop plate, then something is out of spec.  To add, if you do need to grid a hoop plate, it should be made out of steel, and can be re-blacken via Birchwood Casey "super black" cold bluing.
