I put together my ar a few months back and have probably shot close to 500 rounds through it now (range report later). While cleaning the thing, I've noticed that there are silver tracks where the bolt carrier runs indicating some friction/wear. I'm just wondering if this wear is normal.

Relevant parts:
Young Manufacturing M16 BCG
BCM Blemished Upper

I'm just using standard CLP (generous amounts) as a lube. I didn't notice any wear on the carrier itself and it looks like some of the anodizing has just worn off. The thing shoots well enough, I don't have any problems running ammunition from Tula to PMC to Silverbear to American Eagle.

So, is it normal wear and tear aka just keep shooting it?

Looks fine to me. The anodizing will wear off the aluminum in certain internal spots. It's fine, just keep it lubed and if it functions well it is fine.

Worn out. I run an AR recycling program. PM for address you can send it to for disposal.

Eh, it's fine. A few more edges might get shiny before it's really broken it. Chips, gouges or big scrapes would indicate a problem.

CLP, while it is the military choice, is just "good" at 3 things.  For relatively cheap you can buy a quart of Mobil 1 and it will not dissipate as fast as CLP.  I am not saying it would definitely mitigate any break in wear you are showing, it does last longer.  It is synthetic, reduces carbon build up in my experience.  It works in cold and hot.  Mobil 1 as many other synthetic lubes are "great" at 1 thing, lubing.  We all like different things, I am not suggesting you are wrong by using CLP.  I am suggesting Mobil 1(and other options) is better at one of those things, lubing.
