I've got this problem with a factory colt 9mm upper. I can cycle the action, pull the trigger and the hammer will drop. If I keep holding the trigger and cycle it again the hammer will never catch on the dissconector, it rides the bolt home.
In otherwords the hammer will only catch the sear if it is not depressed. I can swap the upper on to various lowers and it does the same thing on every one reguardless of the lower setup. |

Try to cock the hammer back on the disco with the trigger held back by hand.
The 9mm colt semi uses a mod'd hammer, and short of a problem with the disco itself, sounds like something is off between the bottom of the carrier and top of hammer, and why the hammer is not being cocked down far enough to engage the disco sear with the carrier all they way back. Also, what is not factory Colt 9mm on the rifle???? Did you ramp the carrier, or change the hammer out? |

9mm hammers are different- a 9mm upper will NOT work on a lower with a standard hammer designed for 5.56 That's not quite correct. It should work fine as long as the hammer is of the non-notched, rounded style. OP if you can post a pic of your fcg we may be able to help you. |
| What kind of lowers are you putting it on? There's clearly more to the problem than your upper. Could be the height of your trigger assembly, but you said it is holding on the first attempt. I would also think you might have the buffer assembly with too many spacers but if it cocks, that can't be the problem. I'm assuming you have a problem with your trigger group or a WAY out of spec bolt carrier that someone filed down incorrectly. Either way, more info and pictures are needed. |
