Hello, I recently was gifted a brand new Bushmaster XM15 with the removable carry handle. Took it out to the range and I am shooting pretty high. I'm maxed out on both the front and rear sight and still cant get on target.
I've read that there is a .040 taller front sight post that I can get to alleviate the problem. I don't plan on keeping the carry handle for long, so my question is, will this new front sight work for the carry handle sights, AND new BUIS (say troy rear or MI rear), or only work for the carry handle sights I currently have. Thanks guys for any advice, be nice to the noob, I'm an AK guy |

Front post needs to go up, carry handle/rear sight needs to go down.
Start with the carry handle, set the dial to 3, go in the front allen set screw hole in front of the aperture, loosen the set screw, grab the bottom side of the dial, crank the aperture all the way down, come up a click off bottom with bottom of the dial, then tighten the set screw back up.
Now on the front sight, post always chases the shot, so the post gets unscrewed to make the rifle shoot lower. If you still need to get the rifle to shot lower, then yes, the .040 longer front sight post will be needed. Note here, back to the dial setting of the rear sight. If you find that a front sight post click has you chancing the Zero either up or down a half click too much, then rest the dial up Two clicks off the bottom instead (think of it as your half setting for front post adjustments). |

If you're "maxed out" on the front sight and still shooting high, I think you may be screwing the front sight post the wrong way. Screwing it in will cause you to shoot higher and unscrewing it will cause you to shoot lower. This is it most of the time. Yep, the arrows are for the way that you want the shot to move, not the direction that you want to the sight to move instead. So the up arrow on the FSB moves the front post down, which makes the rifle shoot higher (not really since the rifle is going to shoot where it's shooting all along, but it just changes the sights to look lower now instead). Hence, you are just adjusting the sights to look at the same point that the barrel is really shooting instead. |
| When zeroing, you must use the small aperture ghost ring sight. The rear elevation is set to 6/2 and then turn it two clicks clockwise. Instructions for turning one click clockwise are for A2 uppers. Sometimes instructions would saw turn one click PAST the 8/2 (or 2 clicks past the 6/3 for a removable carry handle) and not specify they mean clockwise on the drum (look down). |
