Several years ago I custom built my upper receiver assembly.  It is a free floating 16 inch barrel with a rail system topped off with an ACOG sight .  Its a fine deer rifle, but I have had always had issues with the scope not sighting in right.  When I sighted in my scope, I had to turn the windage all the way to the right, and the bullets still hit about two inches to the left of the bullseye.  The front sight post is also canted to the left about less than 1/16 inch. What can I do to fix this?  My shot groups are always tight, but always aiming "little to the right" is getting old lol.

First post in 10 years. Where've you been?

Where is the acog mounted?  Mount might be installed wrong.

If you had to max out the turret something is wrong on the mount config.  Pictures may help someone diagnose.   Did you use the included mounting hardware?

The rifle is an A3, so its mounted on the detachable carrying handle

It's mounted on top of the carry handle?  That's probably your problem. Remove the carry handle and put in on the receiver.

there's your problem. Get rid of the carrying handle.

Thanks for the tip .  So you guys don't think that the front sight being canted 1/16th of an inch to the left would cause problems?  I take it that the carrying handle aint the best place to mount a scope......

Only if you are using irons, but even then, many are canted and don't usually cause an issue unless they are severe.

Now take off that carry handle and mount the ACOG where it's supposed to go and enjoy shooting straight.

That A3 carrying handle seems pretty solid on the upper, so what is the deal?  Do you think the small slot where the scope mounts to could be warped?  I will order the mounting bracket soon so I can mount it to the top of the receiver, along with a new gas block.

Have you smacked the scope a couple times?

ACOGS are notorious for the reticle sticking.  When you make an adjustment with the nobs you should give a couple good firm bumps with your palm to the scope.

Happens to me every so often.  I bang the side with a mag.

What ACOG do you have?  I might have a flat top mount for you.

With the earlier ACOGS it was a common problem for the reticle to stick after making an adjustment. A slight tap on the screw with a spent casing after an adjustment was what was required to fix the problem. Now its a habit

What are you considering an earlier ACOG?  Mine is 3-4 years old and adjusting mine I had to give it a couple bumps.

It's not a problem. Read the manual, it even says to take a shot off target after adjusting. The prism needs to seat after moving the turrets.

I went to the range over the weekend, and I think I fixed the problem.  I gave the scope 5 clicks to the right and then I shot, and got quarter sized groups in the bullseye.  I guess all these years all I had to do was adjust the scope .  I shot with iron sights, and got the same result.  The windage knob only needed a few clicks right from mechanical zero.

^ makes no sense.  Make an adjustment, then smack the scope a couple times with your palm.  You're quite unlikely to break it, it's made for the military.
