MY FIRST POST THANKS 1st please turn off the caps When you fire the first shot does the safety move slightly from the off position? Is the safety detent "click" firmly? Is the fire control group new, or maybe all dirty? |

the fire control group is new and clean and the safety does move slightly no click when i move the safety from on to off and back to off and this was a build kit Ok then remove your grip and check the detent/spring. Chances are either you installed the detent upside down (pointy part should be up) or you crushed the spring (not allowing enough force to push the detent) |

Check your disconnector. If it has a rough edge it will hang instead of returning forward. Pushing the safety on would push the trigger forward and reset the hammer. You can check this by hand cycling the rifle. First ensure it is clear, then with the safety off pull the trigger and hold it down. Cycle the action with the trigger held down. Once the bolt is closed take pressure off the trigger. The trigger should reset and be ready to pull again. If it stays to the rear then push the trigger forward and it should click then be ready to pull again. If it is sticking to the rear you can disassemble the fire control group and make 2-3 passes with a fine grit sand paper on the hook of the disconnector. It should cycle on its own then. |

I agree with jaqufrost, but lets take is a step farther and just pull the entire FCG to make sure its clean and installed correctly.
Start with confirming that the selector detent pin fits cleanly into the step channel for it (moves freely), is installed point up, and once you install the pistol grip with selector spring, the selector engages correctly as well. Here, could be that the selector detent pin is too wide, or even the spring channel in the grip to long, and not applying the correct detent tension to the selector. Also at this time, confirm that the tip of the pistol grip screw is not protruding into the bottom of the lower receiver void. Next, dry fit the trigger pin to the trigger outside the rifle. The pin should free spin in the trigger channel, and if it does not, then could be a bur on either C channel sides of the trigger that it binding the pin. On both the disconnector sears, and the hammer back sear, run your fingernail down the edges, and if you find burs, then use a sharping stone and remove them (just the burs, and not dulling the sear edges). When you go to install the FCG, including disco spring large coil side down into the trigger slot under the disco), make sure that you lube all the parts, and that the trigger is not binding up on the sides of the receiver void edges, the slot in the bottom of the receiver for the trigger to pass through, the tail of the trigger on the sides of the U channel in the selector. Click the read lettering to take you to the lower build guide page http://www.ar15.com/content/guides/assembly/lower/
Spring installed, and note how the hammer spring legs start out with the coil end at the bottom of the receiver.
And again, CLP lube the piss out of the Fire control group parts before you install them, including the pins as well. |
