I would not recommend that you clip coils off of the action (buffer) spring. Is this a factory built upper or something that you assembled? When you state short stroking, do you mean that it fires, unlocks, extracts, but does not eject the empty case or what? On your Bushmaster lower, are you running a carbine length buffer tube set up, if so then what buffer is in it and about how many rounds through the Bushmaster lower? Also have you cleaned and thoroughly lubricated the entire bolt carrier assembly so it is wet (glissening like a glazed donut on the 7 bolt lugs and rails of the carrier)? What type of ammunition are you running, and have you tried different types?

It will fire the round off, Eject the spent cartridge, start to strip the next round, but fail to do so. The next round will begin to come out of the mag, but then everything just stops. Bushmaster has a carbine 6 position EMOD collapsible stock on it. It has many 1000's of rnds through it. (Not even going to guess how nmany, it is about 12 years old.) I have cleaned and lubricated the BCG, did not lube the rails though. I have run WInchester and Hornady when I had the problems. Last outing was with the Bushy lower and just used Wolf 62gn for function tests. Thanks for the reply Dean ETA: Odd, funny or just sad.... I preferred the Emod stock on it. A friend is selling his EMOD, maybe I should just buy it. He said he would give it to me for $85.00

I have cleaned and lubricated the BCG, did not lube the rails though. That's your problem, lube the rails silly. Your no short stroking. That's a failture to feed. Does it lock back on the last round? That's the question you want answered as to weather it's short stroking. |

1, You did not install the a-2 receiver extension spacer correct(its the cap piece that goes on the end of the tube before you install an A-2 stock on the tube).
2. You used the new butt stock screw that comes with the stock correct? If you did not get a new butt stock screw, get ahold of Magpul and they will send you one. 3. Before you installed the lubed buffer and spring, you checked the spring for end of winds burs that could have been scrapping down the inside of the tube, and you check the buffer bumper roll pin to make sure that is was not protruding and could be catching on the inside of the spring coils. if burs where found, then they should have been removed with a file. Short of any of the above, then is may just be a case of hammer wedging between the bottom of the carrier, and the top of the disco/trigger, and if you have this problem, then the tail of the hammer and disco tail are going to have a white line/dent where the tail of the hammer has been jamming hard up against both. If this is the case, then the tail of the hammer needs to be shorted by about .040". |
