| I have an older Palmetto/Olympic Arms lower and the three position stock will collapse with just a bump on the butt plate. I pulled the stock off the buffer tube and it appears the detent holes have a slight bevel on the edge of the hole which I'm guessing is allowing the pin to disengage with just a bump. The tube measures 1.17" which appears to be a commercial spec. Can anyone recommend a replacement vendor for the tube ? I looked on Gunbroker and found prices from 9.95 up to 24.95. |
| check how far the stock's locking pin is protruding. you might be able to save some money, and adjust the pin. You should be able to loosen the nut on the bottom of the pin a couple turns, which will allow the pin itself to seat deeper into the holes. you may need to remove a roll pin from the nut before it will turn, depends on the manufacturer. |
| The nut on the bottom of the pin doesn't have a roll pin to secure it. It looks like the manufacturer used a punch to put a small dimple in between the threads on the pin and the threads of the nut effectively binding them together. Not sure how I could unbind the two. |

Not sure how I could unbind the two. you could, but probably not without considerable frustration and additional damage to the stock. The way to tell if you have a commercial stock extension or a mil-spec, is how the threading is done where it threads into the lower receiver. IIRC, commercial extensions have the threads cut into the body, whereas mil-spec threads are raised from the body of the extension. I may have this backawards. You should only need to order a replacement extension, or stock, whichever you decide is the more faulty of the parts. |

Can't help you out with finding a replacement 3 pos. extension but if it is truly a commercial size then I would think you could replace it with any 4 or 6 pos. extension, unless the pin is some weird size.
The threads on a commercial extension are cut into the tube so they are the same diameter as the tube giving them a sort of "flat" appearance. Mil-spec extensions are formed with the extensions so they are sharp and actually larger than the tube. |

Needle nose vise grips to reach into the stock tube back up the detent from turning, piece of leather around the exposed dimpled nut of the detent to grab with a set of channel locks and not mar it, you can remove the entire detent system or just spin the nut back enough to solve the problem. From there, just use Loctite on the detent nut to set the detent correctly so it retains the stock to the tube correctly. And to remove the stock from the receiver extension, just pull the cam lever all the way out (not just cam'd to the side), and the butt stock will pull right off the back of the receiver extension to do the above. |

That worked ! I was able to spin the nut down a few turns and now the detent pin is solidly engaging the holes. Thanks to everyone for the help. |
