| I was shooting various rounds through my SIG516 today and I had a couple hiccups with 55gr Fedral XM193. Somewhere between the bolt catching the round and starting to feed it must have "slipped" and the bolt went home (attempted to at least) with the round still at a 45*. I've been shooting for almost 8 years and have never seen this before, what is called, what causes it, rifle, ammo, mag? Preventative measures? They are pretty old mags (maybe 5 years and couple k rounds) but I ran a couple hundred rounds this week with no malfunctions... various types... and this is the only round that this happened too, three times. I will go and try to buy more of that lot and see what the results are.

Yep, bolt over round, with the face of the bolt catching the middle of the case to try to push it that way out of the mag, instead of the bolt getting behind the rim to correctly push the round out.
Pull the mags apart and CLP clean them as a start, and make sure that the mag is being help correctly/tightly in the mag well via the mag catch. If the problem consists after that, then just may be the time rebuild the mags with new springs; so long as the mag lips are in good shape and the back sections of the mag lips at the U not have cracks or splits. |

Well, bolt over base/bolt over round, must be a couple different interpretations. I think I'll just toss the mag in the trash since that's the general consensus of the problem, I have about 20 Brownells I've been wanting to open up. headed to to the store to pick up some of that lot and will try in a new brownell mag tomrrow.
