Hey guys I finally put together my first AR earlier this year and I am having misfire issues.  Today I went out and had 1 misfire out of a 30 round magazine.  The next 30 round mag had 4 misfires.  I have only shot it three different times with same brand ammo (different lots) and my buddies had no problems using the same ammo.  The other 2 times yielded about the same number of misfires.  All of the rounds show good (from what I can tell) strikes to the primers.

My AR is a DD upper with a Rock River lower and a Spike's NB Battle trigger.  I'm using 30 round pmags and everything is brand new.  It's been suggested that it could be my hammer spring, but from what I've read it seems that a defective spring is rare.  Any suggestions on what it could be or what I should check?

Also be sure your hammer spring is installed correctly.

Wow, sure enough the spring was backwards.  For some reason I only focused on the springs' legs being on top of the pin and not whether they came from underneath. Thanks for the reference pic, thread and suggestions.   Can't wait to take it out again.  Thanks again to everyone.

I installed the hammer spring incorrectly the first time I built a lower and didn't know about it until I was getting clicks instead of bangs on the 90th round. Trigger felt weird and gritty when I was shooting from trigger reset on the last mag. Didn't think to actually look at the lower to see what was up until the light primer strikes on that last round.

Hammer pin had walked out.
