Howdy all. I don't seem to have the greatest luck with the search function, but my issue is as follows:
I entered the CFDCC.org shooting competition for the second time yesterday. I am running a Del-Ton 20" Lightweight rifle upper with a PSA lower, PSA lower parts kit. (I assembled the lower myself, which is where I am now starting to get worried). During the "run and gun" phase of one of the stages, I had a major set of failures where the rifle was not chambering a round. I would insert the mag, slap it up, close bolt and... nothing. Hit mag on the bottom again, rack charging handle, let it fly and... nothing. Drop mag, change, repeat, third mag finally works out and I finish the stage. Not good. This happens twice more, with varying degrees of failure. Happens with USGI and PMAGs, each of which were loaded the morning of. Ammunition was a blend of XM193F and Wolf 62 Gr HP, failures happened under both ammo and magazine conditions. (I was actively testing the combos after the failures, to try to see if I could outfox this situation). So, here's the other problem. Post competition, I ran a few of these tests and the gun engaged every time. Of course, with a more dedicated hand, it's hard to say how accurately I was duplicating the pressure applied. I did notice that my magazines don't easily drop out of the magazine well. I really have to push the button all the way to get it to release. Is there any chance that I have overtightened the button? Would that cause the mags to be difficult to insert and release? If so, how far am I supposed to have that button screwed in? Right now, it is flush with the outside of the button. These are only my conjectures, if you have advice, please let me know. I'm tired of shooting amazing stages only to be killed by random failures. |

What do you mean by "nothing'? Round did not load? Round jammed loading?
About flush with the face of the button is correct. Make sure your fire control group has all the springs installed correctly. Big end of the disconnector spring down inside the trigger and hammer spring installed correctly. I have seen a couple of post where polymer mags were pushed too far up past the mag catch by banging on the bottom of them. Check the mags for damage at the bottom of the mag catch slot. Also some polymer mags have been know to be tight in some magwells. Also there have been some lowers polymer mags would not seat fully into the magwell because the ribs were hitting the bottom of the magwell before the notch reached the mag catch. |

For anyone who catches this in search, I thought I would mention that I determined the source of my error was not with the loading.
My gun was light striking due to a build issue where I put the hammer spring on wrong (180 degrees from the correct position). This issue was causing a light strike, so even though the mags felt like they may not be locking up, scientific method revealed that it was in fact, the build issue, not the magazines. |
