I'm having a bit of a problem I bought a Olympic Arms M.F.R. from a local gun dealer, I didn't like the barrel that was on it when I bought it so I bought a new barrel from DEL-TON its a 16'' DTI government profile 1-9 twist 5.56 carbine barrel with M4 style feed ramps. I also bought an old Colt A1 stock but I'm still using my original buffer tube and original internalize. I then bought two cases of WOLF WPA 55gr FMJ steel cased ammo (1000rds) I went out to my land to test out my new barrel and its not working very well at all.
From what I can see when I insert a mag and go to chamber the first round for some reason the bolt doesn't chamber the round all the way and I have to use my forward assist, That I also changed to the older tear drop Colt style. When the first round fires the gun jams. From what I can see the bolt assembly slides right over the top of the 2nd round in the magazine. Ill UN jam the weapon the same thing will happen after every round is fired??? I used the same ammo with my original barrel and didn't have any problems at all. I have also tried different mags and two different kinds of ammo PMC X-TAC (XP193) and Hornady 5.56 NATO 75 gr. BTHP T2 TAP rounds. The same thing happens no matter what kind of ammo or brand of magazine I use. Has anyone had this type of problem before or know why my riffle is doing this? |

As with anything,it is hard to say for sure how to fix a problem without seeing it.
I am guessing you have a rifle buffer tube if an A1 stock fits on it so that is probobly not the problem. If your gun now has a carbine barrel but rifle upper receiver '' no feed ramps'' then that could possibly be your problem. Although the barrel and upper should either both have m4 feed ramps or both not have them the rifle will usually still feed a round , Most likely yours does not match and it is enough to not feed a round. If your gas block is not located properly it may not be sending enough air to force the bolt carrier back far enough to strip a round. It may also be that the barrel and bolt teeth are catching ''a common problem'' and after 50-100 rounds they will blend together and work fine. You could look at the bolt carrier and probobly see wear on the teeth if this is the problem/ I always round the bolt teeth slightly to give a smoother cycle. |

Did you confirm that the barrel did not twist/rotate in the upper barrel socket, and the bolt lugs are not entering/exiting the barrel extension lugs correctly. Compare the center of the feed ramps to the center of the front take down lug. Next with the bolt removed from the carrier, insert just the carrier into to upper and make sure that the gas tube is aligned to the carrier key as well. I also bought an old Colt A1 stock but I'm still using my original buffer tube and original internalize.
If you swapped out from an A-2 to A-1, then you did not use the receiver extension spacer, and will need to either cut the butt stock end bolt 5/8" or replace the butt stock screw with an A-1 butt stock screw (it's 5/8" shorter). I then bought two cases of WOLF WPA 55gr FMJ steel cased ammo (1000rds) I went out to my land to test out my new barrel and its not working very well at all.
Break the barrel in with at least 500 rounds of brass case ammo, then go back and retest to see if it will run with steel case/coated ammo. Also, remember that the upper needs to be not only clean (chamber brush in the chamber by hand).but will CLP to run coated ammo. See the above and make sure to fully clean and lube the correctly. |
