My Stag 16" carbine was functioning fine before installing a Brownels 22 conversion. After about 600+ rounds of 22 and some cleaning, I now get FTE issues after putting the stock bolt carrier back in and shoot .556. The spent round is still in the chamber, so would this be short stroking and a problem with the gas system? All 22 ammo shot was plated or jacketed bulk (Remington, Winchester, Federal). There were no malfunctions prior to shooting the conversion. I have performed a light cleaning and the gas tube doesn't appear to be blocked, or at least as far as I can get a pipe cleaner in it. I tried a different BCG from another AR and it does the same thing. I suppose I'll pull the gas tube out and look for blockage. Any suggestions?

| I had the same problem but I was shooting non-plated 22LR and the lead plugged the the gas port and tube. I had to remove the front sight to clear the gas port and tube. This doesn't happen as much when shooting plated ammo, but I think you should blow the system out with a .223 round every couple hundred rounds. 600 rds may have been to many without blowing the system out. |
