Fired 3 mags today before I started to have this problem. Has never done this before. Rifle has probably 1000 rounds through it. Got home and took bolt apart. No burs or anything that I can see or feel on extractor and not unduly dirty underneath. Ammo was American Eagle XM195 55 gr. So, my question is try a new extractor or do the upgrade?

Pull the bolt from the carrier.Put a few drops of CLP around the ejector and hook one of the spent cartriges under the extractor claw, then work the ejector to allow the CLP to float the fouling out of the ejector tunnel.Repeat until the ejector moves freely. If the ejector continues to feel weak replace the ejector spring.
Also explain your extractor spring and insert setup. Does it have the standard USGI carbine extractor spring and black insert,or is it a heavy duty XP type spring? Do you have the CRANE o-ring under the extractor? Using a heavy duty extractor spring and/or the CRANE o-ring can easily cause excessive extractor tension that will become obvious with a weak/worn ejector spring,or if the ejector or its tunnel becomes fouled with carbon or brass. |

the spring and extractor are whatever came from bushmaster.....im pretty sure it is the blue insert Flush out the ejector with CLP as I described and see what that does.As a note it may take a couple attempts. Also check the face of the ejector for burrs or a pointed tit in its center if you see alot of brass shavings on the bolt face.If this is the case you will need to pull the ejector and lightly dress it on a stone. At that time I would replace the ejector spring and roll pin. |
