I puchased a .14" DD Lite Rail for my 18" SPR build, got the rail in the mail, opened it, and it was awesome. I of course started fiddling with it and noticed the bolt up plate was way off, come to find out it was for an AR-10. No big deal, call up the place and let them know the problem, he's like "damn, all the .14" lite rails have the wrong one", he sends me the correct one with a return envelope for the AR-10 one. I get the new one today and guess what, ITS WRONG!!!, now I have to call and find out why neither work. Does the .14" lite rail have a special bolt up plate, or what? pics below.

so if this plate does not fit my .14" Lite Rail then there must be another one right? when you look at the second one they sent me you notice a notch cut in the bottom right side in between the two mounting holes, on the web site I do not notice this in the pics.

My mounting ring on my 12.0 lite rail looks like the one with the notch in it .... it's to give clearance for the port door pin .... see pic below.

This is the other side

But it looks like the bottom two holes on your ring are set way to low?

ETA and yes the first rings looks like the AR10 version ... just not sure what the second ring is for?

2ndETA ...Found the ring on DD web site ... this is what mine looks like and they show the same for the 14.0"

That second ring you got almost looks like it belongs to a "knock off" version or something?

im not sure where they got the second ring from, I thought they would just grab it from one of the other lite rails. It's from a very reputable company that I wont mention unless this doesnt get fixed soon, its not their fault so far as the guy told me when he went and looked at all the other .14" rails they all had the AR-10 bolt up plate but had the correct barrel nut.

now that I look closer, the cut out for the gas tube is way different, and you cant see in the picture but the finish on the second one they sent is rough and doesnt even look the same as the first one.

I have no experience with these but I just wonder if they sent you a ring from a MK18 RIS II rail system ?.... they are very similar but are slightly different.

[#6]
I was thinking the same but if you look at the top left screw in between the gas tobe hole and the screw hole you notice a tab sticking out, neither of my two have this.

I just figured out where the second ring came from. look at the bolt pattern on this one and you can see its the same as the second one they sent me.

If that's the case, it's time to let us in on what company peddled you that bullshit!

I would rather not say untill I speak with somebody tomorrow and see how they take care of it, at least the rail itself is legit as was the first ring, just for the wrong rail. Im thinking they went looking through spare parts, found that one and noticed it was smaller then the first one and figured it was correct with out matching it to the rail, how they got one for an air soft? I dont know but I will ask.

Call DD tommorow.  Problem solved.

Well that is your choice ... but even if it was an honest mistake anyone that could mistakenly send me an airsoft part I'd really rather not deal with at all ... who's to say they don't "accidentally" send a complete airsoft rail to someone that thinks they are getting a quality rail but they don't have the knowledge to know the difference. And what of that same someone expected that rail (or any part for that matter) to function like the real one in a "real" life or death situation and it fails.

What company sells real Daniel Defense stuff AND patent-infringing airsoft shit? That's classy...

They are sending me the correct one, supposedly what happened was the second one they sent was a prototype for the standard M4 rail instead of the round one it uses now and they didn't get rid of them when DD decided not to use it and keep that style only for the Lite rail.

Just to add, here is the website where I got the pic of the airsoft version, if daniel defense never made anything for airsoft like the guy told me then this place is up to some shady shit. www.madbullairsoft.com/../index.php

That's BS ... the M4 rail has never used that type of ring ... ever!
11/29/2010 2:42:58 PM EDT
[#17]
Uh huh...

Why would they have samples of a bolt up ring for a prototype rail they never had? The DD M4 rail doesn't even use bolts it uses indexing pins.

I bet that guy you talked to thinks he's pretty slick.

I might call daniel defense and see what they say about it, now that I'm more frustrated, the company is Rainier Arms.

Interesting, I wouldn't think they would make shit up as they are a trusted site sponsor. I've had good experience with them.

Hopefully you get the right one this time. Third time is the charm!

Since the OP says it's Rainier Arms, I would think it's an honest mistake. They have a good reputation around here & I've never heard of them being shady.

And the thing about the "prototype", I would think that the guy the OP was talking to was just speculating.

Thats why I didnt want to mention their name, I have ordered a lot of stuff from them for this current rifle and everything was perfect.
the first mistake for sure was DD because it was in the factory sealed package with the correct barrel nut but wrong bolt up plate, its this second one that has me wondering as you can plainly see by going to the airsoft website I posted that its the same, now I want to call daniel defense and ask if they make any rails for airsoft rifles, and if not let them know that this place is using their name for a rail that is similar to their Lite Rail.

This is what I'm curious about. Maybe somebody generously "donated" it off of their airsoft rig for you.

You should definitely call DD and see what's up. Mistakes happen, but this one is a bit bizarre.

Daniel Defense does produce airsoft gear.  Actually, I think they gave license to Madbull Airsoft to produce identical rails and such using the DD logos, but far cheaper materials and processes.  Magpul does this also.  But they shouldn't be mixing it up nor should thier distributors!

I can almost believe that the bolt up plate was a prototype since Stickman from Ranier Arms does so much photgraphy work for various companies.
