I have an issue with my AR. Every time I fire a round I have to pull the charging handle. The rifle won't re-cock itself. My AR is a 5.56mm and I fire .223 Remington. Can someone help me, please?
Thanks, Bryan |

We need more info.. What brand AR do you have? When you fire the rifle does the Bolt Carrier Group move at all? Is the rifle new? Has the rifle ever worked correctly? If the rifle is new did you clean and inspect it prior to firing? Sounds like a gas problem.. I built the AR. It is a CMMG lower, Colt upper, DTI barrel, and internals bought from del-ton.com. The rifile is about 5 months old and has never worked correctly. I do believe it is a gas problem. It feels like the rifle does not have enough pressure. Thanks, Bryan |

I assume you have tried different ammo so let start with the BCG. Make sure the gas carrier key bolts are tight.Check the gas rings on the bolt ( the bolt should not fall freely out of the carrier) It sounds like no gas is getting to the BCG. What kind of gas block/Front sight base is on it? Make sure the gas block is aligned with the port on the barrel. Check the barrel to make sure it has a gas port. Check the gas tube at the gas block. Make sure the gas tube is not bent, kinked or otherwise damaged. Does the BCG engage the gas tube with little to no resistance?
If all above things check out then you will need to make sure that the port on the barrel is the correct size. Something is blocking the gas flow. It is possible to check the gas system several ways. I plug the chamber with my finger then use my air compressor to blow air into the barrel. You should be able to feel air coming out of the gas tube. Hope this helps.. |
| Sounds like something is restricting gas flow. A good way to check gas tube alignment is to pull the bolt out of the carrier ... then slide the carrier into the upper and see if there is any resistance when the carrier key comes into contact with the gas tube. Also if you used a clamp on or set screw type GB and you have no hand guard end cap installed make sure the GB is spaced about 1/32" off the shoulder of the barrel (that's about the thickness of the hand guard end cap that would usually be there). |

I took my upper apart and noticed that I was missing the 3 bolt gas rings. Could that be the reason to my problem? |

| Yes that is a problem. Replace the gas rings. It is easy, look in the build forum and it will tell you how if you need help. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but just worked a 48hr shift and had to come home and get some sleep. Bet the new rings solve the problem, if not let us know. |
