I've got an upper that I put together myself. 20" 1-8 twist JP Supermatch barrel, Young NM BCG, JP/VTAC Hand guard. It shoots pretty good but only about 1MOA. I really would have expected 1/2 MOA out of this barrel. I've tried 75gr Hornadys (over tac and varget) , 75gr Barnes TSX (varget) , 75gr PRVI (tac), and 55gr Hornadys (tac). All loaded with wolf SRM. Accuracy is around 1 MOA for all the bullets at the right powder load. Besides trying a different primer, which I don't think will help, where on the rifle should I start looking for things that might affect the accuracy? |

Need details on the barrel (chamber really), such as what is the jump to lands as of now.
Can you come out of the mag with ammo and have less than a .005 jump to lands with BT ammo, or will you need to long lead and sled to achieve such? Bottom line here, load up a dummy round to kiss the lands with bullet you are using and post back with the over all length of the round. Get me this, the distance that you are shooting, and we can help you achieve the loads that will just make the barrel sing for such (read my 200 yard loads are not the same as my 600 yard loads, since at the shorter distances, it's the bullet sleeping that I am more concerned about that bucking the wind). Also, groupings are 10 shot min, with maybe even 20 shot strings since this is what you will be putting down the barrel before you could even think about cleaning such for the next shot string in a match. It's not the groups that we are looking for here, it how the barrel deals with being shot/fouling out in such during the strings. Also, even though you may have a lapped barrel, the rest of the rifle needs to self polish out through live fire. It may take a few hundred rounds until the rig starts to run consistently and lays down some great groups. If you have a button rifled barrel, then you should be good to around 7k of rounds before the barrel starts give up the ghost. If you have a cut groves, then you are good for about 4K of rounds until the barrel just decides it doesn't want to group anymore one day. |
