| Im working on a new build and when I fire it I am getting gas in my face. The bolt is a brand new RRA, could it be a bad gas key? If I look at the bolt it seems like there is residue coming from the front of the gas key where it mates to the bolt. Also the upper seems pretty dirty inside towards the front. |

Quoted: Best guess is the blow out is out the back of the carrier past the tail of the bolt, and making it's way past the charging handle. Worst case, the problem could be solved with a gas buster charging handle. I have the same problem on a few uppers... I have just sucked it up though, because $100 for a charging handle is insanity. Is there any cheaper alternative... Some sort of trick I don't know about? |

Not sure how well it works, I’ve never tried it myself. Do you have a link to any "how-to"s? I looked up RTV... and it seems plausible. Just not sure how I would apply it properly. |

I would suggest black RTV over red. And the use of Vaseline or paste wax as a mold release on the back of the upper receiver. That would prevent having to cut away the CH from the upper receiver, after the RTV has set up. Jeff is also an ARFCOM member, and one of the good guys, he goes on here by the name "USMC03". You might shoot him an IM. http://www.coloradoshooting.org/gas%20buster.htm |
