I have recently came into the home stretch of my first AR build.  When I went to remove my old varmint upper to put my new carbine upper on, the rear pin stuck!  I initial tried to punch it out, when that was unsuccessful I stopped not wanting to mar or damage anything.  I have now completely disassembled the entire rifle (every spring, detent and complete buffer assembly) trying to remove this pin to no avail.  has Anyone ever encountered this or have a remedy because I am left scratching my head!!  Any and all input would be appreciated thanks guys

Use a bigger hammer?

Seriously, I don't see any way to get that pin out other than reversing the way it went in.

A Golf tee works great as the punch part.  It will blow up before you can do any real damage if the take down pin or detent is seized.

As for the rear take down detent and spring, they are retained in the back of the receiver via either the butt stock, or in the case of a carbine stock, the receiver back plate.

I took a look at it again with a fresh set of eyes and it appears that the detent is somehow wedged against the pin even after I removed the spring.  I'm going to give it another go later on so we will see how it goes.
