Why do you need to remove the pin?

Why are you removing the extension? They generally are never removed or replaced, so there isn't a procedure in the TM.

You are aware that extensions are not swappable on barrels that have had the gas port drilled? Assuming you're doing a gas operated build of course.

Do you know how to remove an extension pin??? If so how did you do it. or have you read anywhere on how it may be done. I can get it out by drilling in the mill.Just looking for someone that has done it.I don;t care to take the time to go into why or extension timing. or gas port drilling and indexing. thanks

I've seen it done once.  A little heat and a pair of vice grips that had a threaded face for holding screws.  Pulled it right out
Extension was being salvaged from a damaged barrel.  Let us know how it turns out

Bad idea pulling the barrel extension to just re-ream.  Instead ream the barrel with the extension in place.

The barrel extension is installed at around 150ftlbs of torque, and as stated, when you go to reinstall it, it's not going to align as it was before when correctly torqued, leaving the gas port and even the FSB ( if tapered pinned) off index with the barrel extension pin.

Along with what Dano said, you do NOT need to remove the barrel extension to re chamber the barrel.

But on a side note if you are dead set on removing the barrel extension, you do not need to remove the index pin to do so.
