Brand new uppers need to wear in. Polish the rough edges, open up the tolerances a little.
It's not uncommon to experience malfunctions during the initial break in. How many total rounds do you have through it? If it is still malfunctioning after 50-100 or so it may be something else. That being said. Lube the hell out of the bolt and carrier, run it wet. Especially when new. Use full power good quality ammo. Those are usually the main problems with new uppers. Check the ejector, push it in and make sure it snaps back properly. Check under the extractor claw to make sure there are no burrs or deposits. Hand cycle it, does it extract ok? How difficult is it to retract the BCG by hand? Try another magazine, use quality magazines. Did you build the upper or buy it assembled? It is possible there is an obstruction in the gas system. When you fire does the bolt carrier fully retract or does it short stroke? Load a single round in a magazine and fire. Does the bolt lock back properly? If yes, then the gas system is probably OK. |

What are the main things to look for when a new upper/BCG will not extract after the first few rounds? Not fully cleaning and lubing the rifle correctly before firing the rifle the first time. After than, gas leak or blocked gas system. Next would be the wrong ammo to break a rifle in, hence wolf ammo and a Bushmaster rifle. Really, is the bolt moving at all, or do you have a Bolt action rifle on your hands? |
