My M&P15x has app 3000rds thru it. Eveything is stock. Today at the range, the first and second magazine ran flawlessly except the bolt did not hold open after the last round, this has never happen before.
With the 3rd magazine, app every 3 rounds the bolt would not pickup the next round. It did this the whole magazine. I went thru the steps 1)ammo is prvi 55gr, used before and no problems 2)magazines are pmags, again, used before with no problems 3)checked the carrier key, nice and tight. The only thing left I can think of is the gas tube is clogged/dirty. I have never cleaned it. I do not have any of the tube cleaning pipes. Could this be the problem or am I missing something else? Thanks |

The only thing left I can think of is the gas tube is clogged/dirty. I have never cleaned it. I do not have any of the tube cleaning pipes. Don't stick things into the gas tube. You're more likely to create a problem than solve one. If a gas tube is clogged, it needs to be swapped out. Luckily they are easy to change and inexpensive. Some guys like to shoot some brake cleaner through the tube to see if it flows through okay. Gas tubes don't typically clog, sine the gas it operating at a very high pressure, but it can happen.
Ammo is one of the fist things to look at when short stoking occurs, as well as cleaning/lubrication. Gas rings usually last longer, but again, something to check. |
| Dirty, dirty, dirty, You need to clean the bolt and carrier real good, and then probably your chamber. A dirty chamber will try to hold onto the spent case. Don't worry about the gas tube being dirty, never heard of that, but you might look into the front sight base, make sure it's tight and the pin is still in there holding the gas tube on. |
