| Brand new bushmaster 16" barrel 300 rounds thru it, getting FTE. It is leaving the spent casing halfway in the chamber then it picks up the new round and wedges it against the spent one that is halfway in the chamber. Could it be the extractor spring is too weak. Ammo used was PMC 55gr and Winchester 62gr. |

Ryan, you can call bushmaster to get one, but will save you the trouble since the part is only a dime.
Hit up a hardware store and buy a #60 O-ring, and install it around the outside of the extractor spring to add tension to the spring. About the time the O-ring falls apart, you will no longer need it. Right now you chamber is on the production rough/tight side, and as it fouls, it is grasping the spent case a slight bit too much, causing the extractor to drop the case off the bolt face before the end of the B/C rearward stroke, leaving the spent case still in the action. About the time that the O-ring falls apart, the chamber will have been self polished out through live fire and cleaning, and just a faint memory. |
| Exactly what dano said, get the o-ring on the extractor for now. If it came with one on there, then you probably have a slightly rough chamber which is common. You can also go to a heavy buffer to slow things down a bit, sometimes extractors bounce and let go of the case, the H buffer will help this. You could always very lightly polish your chamber, but don't do it unless you know how, the chrome will polish off if you do it wrong. Try making sure that your chamber is super clean for a while. |
