In the last 6-months I have found two dimpled firing pins in two 16" Carbines. I had it happen from time to time over the years. I imagine I have replaced 5 or 6 over the last 20 years for this reason.

Am i correct in that dimpled firing pins are usually caused by a pierced primer? I'm NOT using the firing pin as a carbor scraper or extractor pin take down tool.

I have been shooting a lot of 77Gn NATO and TAP T2 5.56mm ammo in these two guns.

I have read that one a firing pin has a dimpled face it makes it much more likely to pierce primer or slam fire. So I'm assuming I should always replace a FP i find with a dimpled tip? Or should i just keep using them?

Not uncommon for some cheap parts to be made in correctly, with the tips either crated to be begin with, or to not be heat treated correctly and the tips just wear out quickly.
