I had a perfectly functioning rifle and then..... I got a great deal on a LBC chromed BC. So I installed it (with the old bolt and new gas rings). I had immediate FTF and the bolt was closing on a empty mag. Nothing obivous out of place. (checked tube, key) Is it possible that the increased mass of the Bolt Carrier requires more gas to drive it reward? 16" mid length gas system PRI adjustable gas block and a H3 buffer. So I adjusted the PRI block and the problem seemed to subside but not completely. Any Ideas? Should I switch the Buffer to something smaller? |
To add, 45* muzzle down free drop test of the BC in the upper (upper shotgunned open and just stick your finger in the back of the carrier, pull back to the CH and let it go) . Confirm that the plating on the key has not built up the sideways of the key that is binding on the upper slot track (read BC will not glide back down cleanly when released). If this is the problem, either lap the sides of the key, or just lube the piss out the upper and let the key have it's way on the upper track until it widens/polished it to allow such work without binding). Also check the back of the trigger for hammer wedging against the trigger as the carrier moves the hammer back to the pre-cocked position. Could be that the bottom of the new carrier is lower than the older unit, and the tail of the hammer is now binding up against the back of the trigger as the carrier moves rearward (read will be a indent/white line from such, and just removing a bit of the tail of the hammer will solve this problem). Lastly, with a new bolt in play, confirm the head space is correct (read too tight of head space will cause short stroking problems every time). |
