I attempted to remove the barrel off of my upper without useing the proper action clamp (I know, I know, Im a cheap bast*rd). I just padded my vice and clamped it in. After numerous attempts at removing the barrel, I broke down and bought the action clamp and finished installing the FF handguard.

When I slid the CH/BCG back into the receiver, however, Ive found that there is enough friction where the BCG wont slide all the way down under its own weight. It had always moved in and out with out any friction.

I already checked to see if it was the gas tube, but it fits in the key no problem. The friction starts before the key even touches the gas tube.

I havent fired it yet, but Im afraid that there is enough friction to keep the rifle from cycling correctly.

Could I have bent the receiver slightly when clamping without the action block? I didnt think that I was clamping it that tightly, but I cant think of anything else that would be causing this problem.

The only fix I can think of is taking it to a machine shop and having them take a few thousandths off the inside wall of the receiver. Or trying to find a bolt carrier that fits the receiver.

Any suggestions of fixing this problem are greatly appreciated.

Yes it sounds like you warped your upper.  How did you origionally clamp it in?  With the top sideways facing the jaws, or did you squeeze it from the sides?

Unfortunately I think your only option may be to replace the upper receiver.
Consider it an expensive lesson to use the right tool next time

I clamped it in from the sides. Kinda wondering why I did that looking back at it, I guess hind sight is 20/20. Hopefully someone out there will read this before making the same dumbass mistake I did.

Sounds like it's toast.

I've got a pic saved of a ruined upper that was clamped top/bottom facing the vise jaws - so there's no guarantee when taking a shortcut.

I’ve warned people about this in the past.

Always use the correct tools for the job!

Nevermind, I fixed it. I closed my vice as tight as I could, put the receiver over the jaws and opened it a little at a time until the BCG moved freely. thanks for all the replys.
