When the barrel gas port is too large, it causes the bolt to unlock too soon, with the barrel/bore residual pressure still too high for the bolt (extractor) to pull the spent case from the chamber (spent case still pressure glued to the chamber walls). Although the bolt is trying to unlock and move reward, too much reward force of the B/C is lost on trying to extract the spent case, and this causes short stroking problem. |
